Sunday

DAY 63 July 26, 2009

Started out the morning on the water front in Wilmington, but most everything was still closed on this Sunday morning. I did get to see a large battleship-USS North Carolina-anchored just across the river from Wilmington. It costs $12 if you want to tour it.

Next I drove out the Moores Creek National Battlefield. The timeline in their visitor center helps to put things in context for the Revolutionary War involvement in North Carolina. The video was also very informative and helped tie the whole exhibit together. You can walk down to the creek where the 3 minute battle occurred.

New Bern is a totally cute little town with a Hilton right on the water. Tryon’s Palace is just a short walk, as is the cute downtown street. This is where the first provincial congress was held in North Carolina.

Treating myself tonight to a stay at the Hampton Inn courtesy of the Hilton Honors Program. It is a very nice location, but that is a general rule for Hampton. The town has VERY limited offerings. I got to choose between Sonic, DQ, and KFC tonight.
